    Modelling Freight Allocation and Transportation Lead-Time

    The authors have investigated sustainable environment delivery systems and identified transportation lead-time investigation cases. This research study aimed to increase freight delivery lead-time and minimize distance in transportation. To reach the goal, the paper\u27s authors, after analysis of the hierarchy of quantitative methods and models, proposed the framework for modeling freight allocation and transportation lead-time and delivered a study that includes discrete event simulation. During the simulation, various scenarios have been revised. Following the simulation mentioned above analysis, around 3.8 % of distance could be saved during freight delivery if lead-time for transportation were revised by choosing five days criteria for modeling freight allocation. The savings depend on the number of received orders from different geographic locations

    Strategies for sustainable socio-economic development and mechanisms their implementation in the global dimension

    The authors of the book have come to the conclusion that it is necessary to effectively use modern approaches to developing and implementation strategies of sustainable socio-economic development in order to increase efficiency and competitiveness of economic entities. Basic research focuses on economic diagnostics of socio-economic potential and financial results of economic entities, transition period in the economy of individual countries and ensuring their competitiveness, assessment of educational processes and knowledge management. The research results have been implemented in the different models and strategies of supply and logistics management, development of non-profit organizations, competitiveness of tourism and transport, financing strategies for small and medium-sized enterprises, cross-border cooperation. The results of the study can be used in decision-making at the level the economic entities in different areas of activity and organizational-legal forms of ownership, ministries and departments that promote of development the economic entities on the basis of models and strategies for sustainable socio-economic development. The results can also be used by students and young scientists in modern concepts and mechanisms for management of sustainable socio-economic development of economic entities in the condition of global economic transformations and challenges

    Evaluation and Comparison of Selling Terms in International E-Commerce

    The article focuses on the complex and economic evaluation and comparison of selling terms provided by the international on-line sellers. Analysis of scientific literature on electronic commerce (e-commerce) published by Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Harvard University Press, Springer, M. E. Sharpe, Routledge, etc. shows that 15% of the authors analyse only selling terms. Most of these authors investigate selling terms from an economic point of view and others, only about 1, 5 %, from a legal point of view. The authors that analyse selling terms give the same attention to the international and national issues, but more attention to the United States of America than to the European Union issues. So, the results of this analysis show the importance of research, which combines economic and legal terms, and give more attention to the European Union on-line sellers. The paper presents the results of investigations in this context

    Application of Information-Sharing for Resilient and Sustainable Food Delivery in Last-Mile Logistics

    The growing food demand, the tendency for organic food, and the adaptation of the e-commerce business model require new food supply chain management approaches. On the one hand, 30% of the world’s produced food is wasted, and CO2 emissions are rapidly growing due to transport. On the other hand, the increasingly complex and dynamic environment is decreasing the effectiveness of food supply chains. Because of these trends, sustainability and resilience are becoming more relevant to food supply chains. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to propose a strategy based on information exchange to improve food quality and decrease the level of CO2 emission in last-mile deliveries of food products. To achieve this goal, an agent-based model of last-mile deliveries was developed. The model simulated traffic flow and traffic accidents as disturbances in the system while measuring the level of CO2 emission and food quality of the network. The simulation compares information sharing between all vehicles in the urban area and without information sharing in four scenarios of the food industry. In practice, information sharing is achieved by using connected vehicle technology. The use of information sharing between vehicles in last-mile delivery processes allows the development of a self-organizing system, which would adapt to disturbances and lead to the development of sustainability in the long run

    Warehouse Order Picking Process

    The order picking process, - the retrieval of products from specified locations according to customer orders, - is the most laborious and costly process in a warehouse. It consumes almost 60% of all warehouse labour activities. Various routing methods can lead to significant improvements. This chapter analyses the influence of routing methods on a picker travel distance in a wide-aisle warehouse. In order to determine potential travel distance savings, a simulation model was created. Routing methods in a wide-aisle warehouse and other order picking process optimisations are analysed through simulation. The presented results show that by using appropriate combination of optimisation methods, the picker travel distance can be reduced by about 60%
